Forty metres under Järvafältet

A race on a motorway that has not opened yet, with almost the whole course underground.

Förbifartspremiären is run on Saturday 3 October 2026 on the Hjulsta–Häggvik section of the new E4 Stockholm bypass, before the road is opened to traffic. Start and finish are at the new Akalla interchange, and the course runs out and back through the Akalla, Hästa and Kronås tunnels. The twelve-kilometre line passes under the same ground four times.

There is no hill on this course, and yet the published ascent is 154 metres over 12 km, 82 over 7 km and 72 over 4 km. Every metre of it is a tunnel ramp: the profile bottoms out around forty metres below the surface and climbs back into daylight at each turnaround. It is a race whose signature point is its lowest one.

Satellites do not reach through rock, and that is exactly the case Livebib computes for. When the signal goes quiet the runner’s position is carried forward between the timing mats instead of freezing on the map — marked as estimated, never as measured. The conditions here are unusually kind to that: one road, out and back, no route choice, and a ninety-minute limit on the competition class. The family waiting in Akalla still sees where their runner is while she is under a nature reserve.
