Course & challenge

Esbjerg City Half halvmaraton

The 21.1 km route is, in the organiser’s words, a combination of town, harbour and natural surroundings: it leaves the square through Esbjerg’s streets, takes in the harbour and the greener parts of the town, and passes the town’s landmarks before coming back to the finish in the centre. The race is certified by Dansk Atletik Forbund and DGI and is part of Denmark’s official race calendar. Runners must be at least 15, and the finish area has food and a medal for everyone who completes it.

The three-and-a-half-hour limit is generous for a half marathon, and the field shares the route with the City Walkers, who set off at 09:30 to walk the same course and have until 14:30. Thirty minutes after the half-marathon start, the 10 km goes off from the same square. This page is about the 2026 edition of the half marathon.

On a route that goes out to the harbour and back, family on Torvet see the start and then nothing for an hour or more. A Livebib broadcast shared by the runner shows where they are on the course line, how far they have come and a finish estimate that updates as the race goes, in a browser, with no account and no app. Estimates are marked as estimates, and the link goes only to the people the runner chooses.
