A figure eight around the Hermitage

Eremitageløbet is 13.3 km of hilly cross-country through Dyrehaven, the deer park north of Copenhagen, and its distance has not changed since 1983.

The race was run on Sunday 4 October 2026, starting at 11:00 in Dyrehaven, with the start and finish area about 900 metres from Ved Fortunen 33 in Lyngby. The organiser, Københavns Idræts Forening and Københavns Skiklub, describes the course as hilly and in the terrain. It is shaped like a figure eight, so the field passes Eremitageslottet twice, and the drink stations stand there. The finish is inside Dyrehaven at Ved Fortunen, up to Fortunporten.

There are no fixed waves. Runners line up behind banners marked with expected finish times, such as 1:05:00–1:09:59, and the start line is 400 metres from the finish line, so it takes 20 to 25 minutes before the last runner has crossed it. The idea came in 1969 from the physician Peter Schnohr of KIF and the dentist and Olympic skier Svend W. Carlsen of KS, who set up the first run with the newspaper BT. Ten per cent of each entry fee goes to Dyrehaven, part of a UNESCO World Heritage site with about 2,000 deer.

Two things make the race hard to follow from the side: a start that lasts twenty minutes, and a figure eight where a runner near the palace could be on either pass. A Livebib broadcast that the runner shares answers both. It opens in a browser, no account and no app, and shows the position on the course line, the distance covered and a finish estimate that updates as the race goes. Under the trees, if the phone loses signal, the position is carried forward along the course and marked as estimated instead of freezing. The runner decides who gets the link.
