Coast to Coast Longest Day
Two hundred and forty-three kilometres, one island, one day. The race opens with a short run and a 55-kilometre ride inland through podocarp rainforest, climbs into the Southern Alps for a 33-kilometre mountain run over Goat Pass — unmarked river-bed and boulder ground where route choice matters as much as fitness — then a second bike leg to Mount White Bridge, 67 kilometres of grade-two whitewater down the braided Waimakariri gorge, and a final ride into Christchurch to the Pacific.
Winners finish in around eleven hours; a great many competitors are still on the road at dusk. This page belongs to the 2027 edition of the Longest Day.
