Once around the Achensee

The Achenseelauf takes place on Sunday 5 September 2027 and leads 23 km once around the Achensee, the largest lake in Tyrol.

Held traditionally on the first Sunday in September, the Achenseelauf is one of the most established running events in Tyrol and is organised by the Tourismusverband Achensee. The course is a little longer than a half marathon, 23 km with 208 metres of climbing, on asphalt, gravel and forest paths, with the Rofan and Karwendel mountains in view.

Besides the full lap there is a 14.5 km fitness run on flat gravel and asphalt along the shore from Pertisau to Achenkirch, and a relay for two, with a flat first leg of 14.5 km and a harder second leg of 8.5 km on trails back to Pertisau. Children's races of 0.4 to 1.7 km follow in the afternoon. The organiser has fixed the date and says the remaining details for 2027 will follow. In 2026 the main races started at 10:00 at the fire station in Pertisau.

In 2026 runners on the 23 km had to reach the aid station in Achenkirch by 11:45 to be ranked, and the finish in Pertisau closed at 14:00. Poles and headphones are not allowed. Six aid stations line the course, and the last one at the Fischergut in Pertisau adds sandwiches and cake. Fitness runners and relay teams can use the boats of the Achensee shipping company for free to get back to Pertisau.

Spectators can follow the race along almost the whole course. Only the Gaisalmsteig and Mariensteig are reserved for runners on race day. Parking in Pertisau is limited, so the organiser recommends public transport. The prize giving is held in the finish area at the Fischergut at around 15:00.
