Twenty-one kilometres in open water, down Lake Vidöstern from Osudden in Värnamo — the half distance of the long swim and a serious undertaking on its own terms. Like the 42, every swimmer has their own support kayak alongside them for feeding and navigation, and the water temperature in a Småland lake in August is friendly for an hour and much less friendly after five.
It is the distance most swimmers use to find out whether the full traverse is realistic. This page belongs to the 2026 edition of the 21 kilometres.
