Course & challenge

Great Lake 100

The organiser built it as the middle option, longer than Length of the Lake and less demanding than Round the Lake. Group 1 starts at 9:15am, Group 2 at 9:30am and Group 3 at 9:45am. Getting to the start is part of the entry: bus and bike transport is mandatory and included, bikes are registered on Friday night to be loaded, and buses leave Te Heuheu Street, opposite Church @109, at 6:45, 7:00 and 7:15am. Supporters cannot drop riders at the start.

From Waihaha the ride follows the Round the Lake course into Tūrangi and up the length of the lake. Hydration is at the Length of the Lake start, Tokaanu, Mission Bay and Hatepe Hill, with electrolyte drink on course. Riders must pass Tūrangi by 3:15pm, and organisers may remove anyone unlikely to finish by 7pm.

On Livebib the rider shares a link to their own broadcast. Family in Taupō open it in a browser, with no account or app, and see the rider’s position on the course line, distance covered and a finish estimate that updates, so they know when to be at Tongariro Street. Where the phone loses signal, the position is carried forward and marked as estimated.
