Start and finish are at Mellingerum, and the 12 km runs in the same forest as the other distances: varied terrain with a lot of trail, plenty of climbing and stretches where the organiser says plainly you should expect wet shoes. No ascent figure is published. The 2026 winning time was 1:20:38, close to seven minutes a kilometre for the fastest runner — a measure of how much the ground takes out of you.

Twelve kilometres is a sensible step for someone who has done the 8 km or other short trail races and wants something longer without going to sixteen. With the 16 km starting fifteen minutes earlier and the 8 km fifteen minutes later, there are runners ahead and behind in the forest. Anyone aged 15 or over may enter.
