Göteborgsvarvet, live.

Fifty-two metres up, on Älvsborgsbron

A half marathon whose highest point is a bridge: out over the river on Älvsborgsbron, back over Hisingsbron and home to Slottsskogen.

Göteborgsvarvet is run on Saturday 22 May 2027, and the organiser lists it as sold out. The elite start at 13:00 on Margretebergsgatan, where the race has started since 1982, and the field follows in start groups through the afternoon. The finish is at Slottsskogsvallen. In 1980 the race had 1,800 entrants; the organiser now counts more than 200,000 spectators along the course.

The 21,097.5 metres go through Slottsskogen and Majorna, then up onto Älvsborgsbron, where the course reaches its highest point at 52 metres above sea level. On Hisingen the route follows the river past Eriksberg and the flat promenade at Lindholmen, crosses back on Hisingsbron — 440 metres long, on the course since 2022 — and climbs through the city and up Avenyn to Götaplatsen before Vasastaden, Skanstorget and the last kilometre back through Slottsskogen. There are nine drinks stations, from Björngårdsvillan at 1.8 km to Villa Belparc at 20.2 km, and cutoffs at 5 km by the Älvsborgsbron bridgehead, 12 km, 15 km, 17 km and 19:15 at the finish.

With start groups spread across the afternoon, the crowd at Götaplatsen cannot tell when one particular runner will come past. A runner can share a link to their own Livebib broadcast: family open it in a browser, with no account and no app, and see the runner on the course line, the distance covered and a finish estimate that updates as the race goes, marked as an estimate. The runner decides who gets the link.
